Men's Hoops Wins Thriller over Georgetown

PHILADELPHIA - Jermaine Medley hit a 3-point shot at the buzzer to give Villanova a 93-90 double-overtime victory over Georgetown in a Big East game Saturday.

Georgetown (9-11, 2-9) had taken a 90-87 lead when Anthony Perry hit one of two free throws with 14 seconds left. After Villanova's Howard Brown hit a 3-pointer with 2.4 seconds remaining, the Wildcats' Brooks Sales deflected the inbound pass to Medley, who hit a 28-footer from the right wing.

Villanova (16-6, 7-5), which led by as many as 17 points with 13:33 left in regulation, sent the game into the first overtime when Malik Allen hit two foul shots with 1:26 to go.

The Hoyas trailed by 55-38 before going on a 17-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 57-55, at the 8:21 mark. Nat Burton scored 11 of the points in that run.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 13-0 lead, hitting on five of their first seven shots while Georgetown was missing on its first eight attempts and had four turnovers. Villanova led 38-23 before Georgetown went on a 7-1 spurt to trail 39-30 at halftime.

Brian Lynch had 20 points for Villanova; Brown had 15. Sales had 13 points and a season-high 17 rebounds. Burton had 21 points, Kevin Braswell 18 and Perry 16 for Georgetown.

The Hoyas are now 2-5 under Craig Esherick, who took over for John Thompson on Jan. 8. The losses are by a combined total of 15 points, an average of 3 points.
