Wildcats Upset Quakers

In a wonderfully played contest, the Villanova Wildcats upset the Pennsylvania Quakers 7-5. In his third straight outstanding performance, John McTigue dished out a career-high six assists in the victory. McTigue has recorded 14 assists in his last three outings.

The Wildcats got out front first with goals by Christopher Larson and Eric Dauer to give Nova a 2-0 advantage. With 5:10 remaining in the first quarter, Jeff Zuckerman got the Quakers on the board as the first period ended with a 2-1 Villanova advantage. Just :49 seconds into the second quarter, Penn's Peter Janney netted one of his two goals to tie the game at 2-2. Four minutes later, Todd Minerly gave the Quakers their first lead of the night on his score, but the Cats fired back to tie the game at 3 apiece on one of Tom Hourican's three goals.

Both teams defensive units proved themselves in the third as Penn's Scott Solow netted the only goal of the quarter, giving Penn a 4-3 lead. In the fourth, Villanova rifled off three straight goals, all assisted by John McTigue to give the Wildcats more than enough room. Houricane's final goal with 6:02 remaining was the end of the scorign for the night as Nova swept the city series with Drexel, St, Joseph's and now Pennsylvania.

Villanova (6-6) was led yet again by McTigue, while Tom Hourican added three goals in the victory In goal for the Cats was sophomore Matt Wilk who had seven saves.. For Penn, who falls to 6-6 with the loss, Peter Janney netted two scores. The Wildcats will honor their seven senior prior to their contest with Georgetown on Sunday, April 25.
