Hosting Pittsburgh and Brown for dual swimming and diving meets on Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at the Villanova swim center, the Villanova women's swimming and diving team defeated the Pittsburgh Panthers 133-126 and defeated the Brown Bears 137-126. The Wildcats men fell to Pittsburgh 202-36 and dropped to the Brown Bears 193-41.
The Villanova women were led by freshman Maddy Crippen who posted two individual wins. Crippen broke the Villanova pool record with a time of 16:42.96 in the 1,650 yard freestyle and won the 200 yard breastroke in a time of 2:19.08. Senior Liz Lauwaert also tallied two individual victories in the 50 yard freestyle (24.22) and the 100 yard freestyle (52.72). Sophomore Kristen Olson also recorded a individual win in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.49).
In relay action, a continient of Lauwaert, Olson, junior Tara Brock and freshman Bethany Lavigno swam a time of 3:30.69 to win the 400 yard freestyle relay.
In men's action, freshman Greg King tallied a third place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 52.84.
The Wildcats will resume action on Saturday, Jan. 30, hosting the Virginia Cavaliers at 1:00 p.m.
