Villanova Women's Lacrosse Wins Season Opener

March 10, 1999

Traveling across town to Drexel University for its 1999 season opener on Tuesday, March 9, the Villanova University women's lacrosse team scored early and often as they defeated the Drexel Dragons 14-7. With the victory, the Wildcats are 1-0-0 on the season.

Villanova was led on the day by senior Meghan Doyle, who scored a game-high eight goals. A senior midfielder, Doyle broke the record for goals in a season in 1998 with 51. Scoring two goals for the Wildcats was sophomore Teri Overturf, while fellow sophomore Liz Kenny, and freshmen Cecily Pierce and Jane Stuart each scored one goal apiece.

In goal for Villanova, Sarah Gilhorn saved 12 shots. Gilhorn makes the move to goalie in 1999, after spending her first three seasons in the Wildcat defense.

Villanova will resume play on Sunday, March 14, traveling to Bucknell to play at 3:00 p.m.
