FORDHAM REPORT:
Fordham enters play this week with a 2-5 overall record and a 1-3 mark in the Patriot League. The Rams are led offensively by junior wide receiver Gerry McDermott who has tallied 33 receptions for 537 yards and nine touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Chris Aufiero has recorded 27 catches for 465 yards and four scores. Junior quarterback Steve O'Hare has completed 107-of-175 for 1,465 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, O'Hare and back-up quarterback Dan Madine are both injured and expected to miss the Villanova game. Third string signal caller Dan Colonna is expected to start against the Wildcats. Thus far this year, Colonna is two-of-five for 85 yards and a touchdown. On defense, end Matt Harris and linebacker Cliff Moseley lead the way with 64 and 63 tackles respectively. Harris has a team-high five sacks and a team-best nine tackles for loss. Sophomore defensive back Ray Reddin leads the team with two interceptions.

RAM HEAD COACH KEN O'KEEFE:
Fordham is led by first-year head coach Ken O'Keefe. Prior to arriving at Fordham, O'Keefe was the head coach at Division III Allegheny College where he registered an impressive 79-10-1 record. In his eight year tenure at Allegheny, O'Keefe led the Gators to a 59-3 conference mark. In 1990, O'Keefe guided Allegheny to the Division III National Championship. For his efforts in 1990, O'Keefe was named the Division III National Coach of the Year. Prior to his stint at Allegheny, O'Keefe was the head coach at Fort Worth (Tex.) Country Day School in 1985 and he was the head coach at Worcester (Mass.) Academy from 1978-84. He also served as an assistant coach at the University of New Haven in 1976 and 1977.

TALLEY'S TENURE:
Currently in his 14th season on the Main Line, head coach Andy Talley can feel responsible for every facet of the Villanova football program, having started it from scratch in 1985. In his 14 years at Villanova, Talley has recorded a 91-55-1 mark making him the all-time winningest coach in Villanova history. Talley's 19-year overall coaching record currently stands at 119-71-2. During his career as the Wildcat mentor, Talley has guided Villanova to five NCAA playoff appearances (1989, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1997) three Conference titles and one Lambert-Meadowlands Trophy. Last season, Talley garnered the Eddie Robinson Award and the AFCA/GTE National Coach of the Year.

BRINGING BACK MEMORIES:
Fordham head coach Ken O'Keefe and current Villanova running backs coach Stan Drayton will surely be reliving old times this week when the Rams and Wildcats meet in the Bronx on Saturday. Drayton was a four-year starter for O'Keefe at Allegheny from 1989-92. In 1990, O'Keefe guided Allegheny to the Divison III National Championship with Drayton the star of the team. During his career, Drayton was a three-time first team All-American and is still the school's all-time leading rusher and all-time leading scorer. Drayton still holds the NCAA Division III record for touchdowns per game at 3.2.

WESTBROOK ADDS TO RECORD BOOKS:
In the third quarter of last week's loss to Massachusetts, sophomore running back Brian Westbrook caught a 37-yard touchdown pass, giving him 13 touchdowns for the season and establishing a school record for touchdowns by a sophomore. This is Westbrook's 10th school record with eight of the records coming this year. Later in the game, Westbrook scored two more touchdowns giving him 15 for the season. The following are Brian Westbrook's school records.

1.Rushing Yards by a Freshman (630 in 1997) 2.Points by a Freshman (72 in 1997) 3.Game Receptions by a Soph. (12 vs Del) 4.Game Receiving Yds by a Soph. (181 vs. JMU) 5.All-purpose Yards in a Game (428 vs. Pitt) 6.Highest Avg. Yards per Play (16.4 vs. Pitt) 7.Kickoff Return Yards in a Game (152 vs. Pitt) 8.First Player in school history to have two career kickoff returns for touchdowns 9.Points by a sophomore (currently has 94) 10.TD's by a sophomore (currently has 15)

22 POINTS FOR WESTBROOK:
On offense last week versus UMass, it was the Brian Westbrook show for Villanova, as the sensational sophomore was responsible for 22 of the team's 26 points. Westbrook scored on passes of 37 yards and 17 yards, in addition to a four-yard touchdown run. He also recorded two, 2-point conversions with one on a pass from Chris Boden and the other via the run. For the season, Westbrook has 94 points which leads the Atlantic 10 and is third in the country.

TOUCHDOWNS IN BUNCHES:
Multiple touchdown games have become a habit for sophomore Brian Westbrook. Last week at UMass, Westbrook scored three touchdowns, making it the third time this season that Westbrook has had three or more scores in a game. In the opener at Pittsburgh, he tallied four touchdowns. Two weeks later at James Madison, Westbrook once again scored four touchdowns.

BODEN REACHES 2,000:
Last week versus UMass, junior quarterback Chris Boden surpassed the 2,000-yard passing yard mark for the second straight season. With this accomplishment, Boden becomes just the third Wildcat signal caller to ever record two 2,000-yard passing seasons in a career. Kirk Schulz accomplished the feat three times (2,844 in 1989, 2,530 in 1988 and 2,338 in 1987), while Tom Colombo did it twice (2,679 in 1991, 2,018 in 1992).

20-STRAIGHT:
Junior quarterback Chris Boden has started 20 games in his Villanova career and has thrown at least one touchdown pass in all 20 games. In those 20 contests, Boden has tossed three or more scoring strikes nine times. Only twice has Boden thrown just one touchdown pass in a game.

PERFECTION:
Freshman kicker Casey Hannon remained perfect last week at UMass by connecting on a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter. After seven games, Hannon is a perfect six-for-six in field goal attempts. Against Northeastern on Oct. 10, Hannon converted on a career-high 41-yarder. His biggest field goal of the season came against Delaware on Sept. 12. With the scored tied at 31-31 in overtime, Hannon made a 35-yard field goal to give the Wildcats the win over the Blue Hens.

KAVANAUGH AND HECKARD RETURN:
Junior tight end Joe Kavanaugh and junior linebacker Dave Heckard returned to the line-up last Saturday at UMass after both missing several weeks with knee injuries. Heckard came back strong, registering 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and one pass break-up. Kavanugh saw time in 12 plays and did not record a reception.

WEST COAST FLAVOR:
Villanova definitely has a west coast flavor to its team by evidence of the 18 Californians that appear on the Wildcat roster. Of the 18, eight are starters with seven others appearing on the depth chart.

LYONS HAS CAREER-HIGH:
Junior linebacker Shaun Lyons established a career-high in tackles last week at UMass with 16 tackles (four solo, 12 assists). After seven contests, Lyons has a team-best 79 total stops which rates him fifth in the A-10 rankings. In addition, he has six tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and a sack. Lyons has recorded double figures in tackles in five of Villanova's sven games this year. Last season, Lyons led Villanova in tackles with 113.

QUARTEY ON THE RISE:
In the past two games, sophomore linebacker Joe Quartey has emerged a defensive force for the Wildcats. Last week at Massachusetts, Quartey made 12 total stops, three tackles for loss and he recorded his first career interception. Against Northeastern on Oct. 10, he made six tackles. For the season, Quartey is fifth on the team in tackles with 36.

BAD NEWS:
Entering play this week at Fordham, Villanova is in the midst of a three game losing streak which is the team's longest losing skid since 1995 when the Wildcats dropped four in a row. In 1995, Villanova lost at Navy (20-14), at William & Mary (18-15), at home to Rhode Island (27-10) and at home to New Hampshire (12-9). Villanova ended the four game losing streak in the final home game of the season with a 28-0 victory over nationally ranked Richmond.

UNRANKED:
For the first time since Sept. 9, 1996, the Villanova Wildcats do not appear in either of the top 25 polls. Before not being ranked this week, Villanova had appeared in the poll for 28 straight weeks.

OVERTIME HISTORY:
Villanova's 34-31 overtime win against Delaware on Saturday, Sept. 12 was the Wildcats' first overtime game since Sept. 23, 1995 when James Madison edged the 'Cats 28-27 at Villanova Stadium. During Andy Talley's tenure as Villanova's head football coach, the Wildcats have participated in five overtime games and have tallied a 3-2 record. Four of the five overtime games have been played at Villanova Stadium.

MAC ATTACK:
Defensive end Chris Machovina is enjoying a super senior season for the Wildcats. After seven games, Machovina leads the 'Cats in sacks with six for -51 yards to go with his 45 tackles. Last week against UMass, Machovina was credited with 12 tackles. In his career, Machovina has tallied 31 sacks.

WILDCATS ON THE RADIO:
Every Villanova football game this season will be carried live by the Villanova Football Radio Network. The flagship station for the Wildcats this season will be WFIL-AM 560. Also carrying Wildcat games in 1998 will be WJNN-FM 106.7 out of Cape May, N.J. Returning for his 12th season as Villanova's play-by-play man is Joe Eichhorn. Assisting Eichhorn in the booth and handling color analysis duties will be Ryan Fannon who has been part of the Wildcat broadcasting team for the last five seasons.

TALK TO TALLEY:
Beginning August 31 and running every Monday morning until November 23 (except Labor Day), the Atlantic 10 will conduct a teleconference with each of the league's head coaches. The teleconference will start 10 a.m. on Monday mornings with a brief recap of the weekend's action, the week's honor roll and other pertinent information. Following that, each head coach will be assigned a 10-minute slot to discuss his team, their upcoming opponent and field any questions from the media. Villanova head coach Andy Talley will be available on the teleconference from 10:30 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. Members of the media wishing to take part in the conference may call 334-323-4100 and enter passcode #12345.

MORE TALLEY TALK:
Beginning this season, WFIL 560-AM will broadcast the Andy Talley Radio Show. The one-hour call in show is hosted by color commentator Ryan Fannon and will provide a weekly recap of Villanova football games, as well as a preview of upcoming contests. The show will be held at the Wild Onion Restaurant located just up the street from Villanova Stadium on Conestoga Road. Throughout the one-hour program, Fannon and Coach Talley will take questions about all aspects of the Wildcat football program, in addition to fielding questions concerning all the teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference, as well as NCAA I-AA football on the national scene. This week's show will be held on Sunday, Nov. 1 from noon-1 p.m.

POLL HISTORY:
Before earning the nation's top spot on Oct. 27, 1997 Villanova's previous best ranking was during the 1992 season when the Wildcats were No. 2 for three weeks from Sept. 28-Oct. 12. At one point, beginning on Sept. 9, 1991, Villanova appeared in the national rankings for 25 consecutive weeks falling out early in the 1993 season. Villanova made its first showing in the I-AA poll on Oct. 9, 1988 when they appeared four consecutive weeks reaching as high as No. 15 on two occasions. In 1989, the 'Cats cracked the poll three times: 10/24 (No. 17), 10/30 (No. 11) and 11/20 (No. 16). After not appearing at all during both the 1994 and 1995 seasons, the 'Cats returned to the Top 25 on Sept. 16, 1996 with a No. 18 ranking. Villanova remained in the poll all season long, reaching as high as No. 9 on Oct. 14. This season, Villanova began the season unranked before cracking the Top 25 on Sept. 2 with a No. 18 ranking.

17 TO HIS CREDIT:
Entering this season, Chris Boden had 14 Villanova school records, all of which were tallied in 1997, on his resume. Boden has picked-up right where he left off this year by already recording three school marks in 1998. Thus far this year, he has set school records for completions in a game (40 vs. Delaware), yards passing in a game (422 vs. Delaware) and total yards in a game (413 vs. Delaware).

COMEBACK KIDS:
Dating back to the 1997 season, Villanova has trailed heading into the fourth quarter on five occasions and managed to win all five games. The following are the comeback wins:

LAST WEEK:
No. 19 Massachusetts 36, No. 22 Villanova 26
October 24, 1998--McGuirk Stadium

Attempting to break its two-game losing streak on Saturday, Oct. 24, the Villanova football team traveled to Amherst, Mass., to face the University of Massachusetts. The Wildcats got down early to the No. 19 Minutemen and despite a late-game rally, fell to Massachusetts 36-26. With the loss, Villanova drops to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.

In the loss, sophomore running back Brian Westbrook was once again outstanding, catching seven passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Westbrook also rushed for 34 yards on 10 carries, including a four-yard touchdown run.

The Minutemen offense got started early scoring the game's first touchdown less than four minutes in, as Marcel Shipp caught an 11-yard score from Todd Bankhead. After a three-yard Shipp touchdown run, Jimmy Moore caught a 19-yard touchdown on the last play of the first quarter to give Massachusetts an early 20-0 lead. Despite a Casey Hannon 35-yard field goal with 3:30 left in the half to get Villanova on the scoreboard, the Wildcats went into the half down 23-3.

The Minutemen broke open the scoring in the second half, as Shipp scored his third touchdown of the game, to give Massachusetts a 29-3 advantage. Villanova would go on to score three of the game's next four scores, however, to close the gap. Westbrook caught a 37-yard pass from junior quarterback Chris Boden for his first score of the game. With only 38 seconds left in the third quarter, he took the ball and ran four yards for a touchdown, and then through a pass for a Wildcat two-point conversion to cut the lead to 36-18.

In the fourth quarter, Westbrook would be the offense once again catching his second touchdown of the game and rushing for a two-point conversion to make it a 36-26 game. The Wildcats were unable to score again, however, and dropped their third consecutive game 36-26.
