Women's Lacrosse Drops a Pair in New England

April 25, 1999

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Senior midfielder Meghan Doyle enjoyed a record shattering offensive weekend but the Villanova Wildcats dropped a pair of close games to Holy Cross and Boston College on the road. Holy Cross defeated the Cats on Saturday afternoon by a 14-10 count in a Patriot League contest. Villanova then fell at Boston College on Sunday afternoon by the score of 14-12.

Doyle was an offensive star for Villanova in both games. At Holy Cross she scored six goals, including her 52nd of the year. That broke the single season school record of 51 Doyle herself established in 1998. The senior midfielder from Cockeysville, Md., followed that effort with a seven goal effort on Sunday in the defeat at Boston College. She now has 62 goals on the season with one game remaining on the schedule on Monday, April 26, at Rutgers.

At Boston College, Doyle's four first half goals helped lift the Wildcats to a 7-6 edge at intermission. Another Doyle goal came 48 seconds into the second half and sophomore Liz Kenny scored less than a minute later to build a 9-6 lead. However, Boston College got five goals in a five minute span, two of them from Lauren Miller, to regain the advantage.

A Kenny score at 9:42 of the second half tied the game at 12. But Miller scored with 5:41 left for the Eagles and Julie Lufkin added an insurance goal with 54 seconds left to lift BC to victory.

Villanova falls to 3-12 (1-4 Patriot League) with the loss while Boston College is 4-11.
