VILLANOVA, Pa. - Johns Hopkins scored four goals in seven minutes to reverse a 5-3 halftime deficit en route to a 10-8 victory over the Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon at Villanova Stadium. Eight different players scored goals for the Blue Jays on the day while sophomore Liz Kenny (Newtown Square, Pa.) led the Wildcats attack with three goals.
The Wildcats played an excellent first half in securing the lead. When Julie Feddeman (Potomac, Md.) scored at the 12:32 mark, the Wildcats were in front 4-1. At halftime the Wildcats had built a 5-3 edge as goalie Sarah Gilhorn played brilliantly in protecting the ?Nova net.
The two teams traded scores early in the second half. Then the Bluejays made their move. A Kate Susman goal at 21:07 cut the lead to 6-5. Freshman Jamie Larrimore tied it at six and classmate Christy Peterson scored what proved to be the gamewinner at 19:13. Danielle Maschuci scored to give the Blue Jays an 8-6 lead with 14:33 left in regulation.
Kenny scored at 7:51 to reduce Villanova's deficit to 8-7. But Neda Dawood answered for Johns Hopkins. Senior Meghan Doyle (Cockeysville, Md.) got the Wildcats back to within one at 9-8 but a goal by JHU's Erin Wellner with 3:09 remaining in regulation gave Johns Hopkins its final margin of victory.
Villanova received standout goalkeeping from Gilhorn (Doylestown, Pa.) on Senior Day. Gilhorn made a career high 17 saves, several of them of the spectacular variety.
The loss leaves Villanova with a 3-10 record (1-3 Patriot League). Johns Hopkins stands at 9-2. The Wildcats have three games remaining on their schedule, all away from Villanova Stadium. Next up is Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday.
