Villanova, Pa. - Goalie Victoria Griffing stopped ten shots on Tuesday afternoon to lead the Lehigh Mountain Hawks past Villanova 12-5 in a Patriot League contest played at Villanova Stadium. At the offensive end sophomore midfielder Emily Stearns scored four goals for the winners.

Senior midfielder Meghan Doyle (Cockeysville, Md.) scored her 29th and 30th goals of the season for the Wildcats. Freshman Cecily Pierce (New Canaan, Conn.) also added a pair of goals for the Wildcats.

After the teams traded goals in the game's first 15 minutes, the Mountain Hwks went ahead for good at 14:11 of the first half on a goal by junior Patrice McNichol (Drexel Hill, Pa.). By halftime Lehigh had built an 8-3 cushion.

Griffing thwarted several attempts by Villanova to rally. She stopped both Doyle and Pierce with strong saves. In the Villanova net, Sarah Gilhorn kept the Wildcats in the game with a 13-save effort on the afternoon.

Second half goals by McNichol, Christina Eberhart and Stearns secured the victory.

Lehigh's win gives it a 4-3 record overall (1-1 Patriot League) while Villanova falls to 3-4 (1-2 Patriot League).
