Football Edges Richmond 35-30 In Atlantic 10 Opener

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Chris Boden passed for 250 yards and two touchdowns and Ducarmel Augustin ran for two more scores Saturday as Villanova beat Richmond 35-30 in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams.

Boden, who was 19-of-31, set a new Atlantic 10 record with 79 career touchdown passes, breaking a record set by Tom Ehrhardt of Rhode Island. Ehrhardt finished his career at Rhode Island in 1985 with 78 touchdown passes.

Augustin got Villanova (1-1, 1-0 Atlantic 10) rolling with a 5-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter, and Boden hit Murle Sango with a 30-yard TD pass with 2:45 remaining in the second quarter to put Villanova ahead 14-3.

Later in the second, Kordell Rone fumbled a kickoff return and the Wildcats' Jamison Young recovered. Four plays later, Boden connected with Sango again on an 11-yard TD pass with 48 seconds left to give the Wildcats a 21-3 lead.

Jimmie Miles hit Dwuane Jones with a 40-yard scoring pass on the final play of the first half to make it 21-10, but it wasn't enough as Villanova's offense rolled in the second half. Augustin had a 16-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter, and Cameron Cross a 1-yard TD run in the fourth for Villanova.

Miles was 21-of-34 for 281 yards and four touchdowns for the Spiders (1-1, 0-1). Richmond had 405 offensive yards while Villanova had 383.
