Volleyball Falls to the University of Pennsylvania 3-0

Villanova, Pa. - On October 10, the Villanova Wildcat volleyball team traveled to the Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa. to battle the University of Pennsylvania. The Quakers defeated Villanova 3-0, by the scores of 15-6, 15-4, 15-7.

Coming off of a victory against Seton Hall on Sunday, their first Big East conference win since November 15, 1998, the Wildcats struggled. Villanova hit only .008 in the entire match. Senior Tina Zitterich (Ames, Iowa/Gilbert) led all players in the match with 10 kills. Freshman Jennifer Edwards (Valencia, Calif./Valencia) recorded 26 assists on the evening.

Defensively for Villanova, senior Breen Eddinger (Tacoma, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) led the way with nine digs. Edwards and sophomore standout Leah Mathews (Poway, Calif./Our Lady of Peace) each added eight digs. Zitterich was in on the defensive action as well, recording three block solos and one block assist.

The University of Pennsylvania featured an expansive attack. The match saw four Quaker players' tally at least six kills. Freshman Elisabeth Kwak-Hefferan led the Quaker attack with eight kills. Fellow freshman Heather Janssen added seven kills.

With the loss Villanova falls to 7-13 overall on the year, while the University of Pennsylvania improves to 14-6.

The Wildcats will be in action next on October 16 at 1:00 PM at home in the Jake Nevin Field House.
