VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Brian Westbrook rushed for a career-high 202 yards and three touchdowns to lead Villanova to a 47-21 victory over Maine on Saturday.
Westbrook became the fourth player in Villanova history to surpass the 2,000-yard career rushing mark.
Murle Sango returned a punt 53 yards to set up the Wildcats' first TD on their second possession of the game. Westbrook scored on a 2-yard run.
Brett Gordon completed 10 of his first 12 passes, and was 13-of-16 for 182 yards and two TDs in the first half. He finished the afternoon 20-of-27 for 248 yards and three touchdowns.
Gordon connected with Brian White on a 16-yard TD pass at the end of the first quarter.
The Black Bears (2-2, 0-1 Atlantic 10) narrowed the lead to 14-7 in the second after quarterback Jake Eaton scored on 2-yard keeper.
Villanova (3-1, 1-0) sealed the win after that, scoring 21 straight points in the second and third quarters.
Maine's Jake Eaton was 24-of-37 for 220 yards and two TDs. Phil McGeoghan caught eight balls for 85 yards.
