Greetings from the AT & T Center in Downtown Sydney. This is the huge place on the waterfront right under the Sydney Bridge- that's the bridge with the Olympic rings on it across from the Opera house. We can come here and have free food and there are TVs where all the American athletes and their families can watch the events.
Here are some of the cool things that happened over the past week:
It has been an amazing time, and I'm sure that I will end up leaving something out...
I watched fellow Villanovan Mike Neill win the gold medal in baseball. He hit a home run in the first inning and caught the game winning out. After the game, I was able to meet him.
My roommate is double gold medallist Brooke Bennet, so we have gotten the chance to do so many things. We went to a Sports Illustrated party twice, on Monday and Thursday- it was under a big tent where tons of athletes and big business people party. It is so cool. Prince Albert, Savage Garden, the President of Sports Illustrated, and a bunch of others were there, but I didn't get to see them. On Thursday, the softball team was there. It was the day after the gold medal game and they were going crazy. It was soooo fun. We also went on a yacht last night, Friday night. The owner of the yacht was the producer of the Sixth Sense and American Beauty. It was beautiful.
Yesterday, Brooke got put up in this awesome hotel, so we moved out of our room in the Olympic Village to this great hotel in downtown Sydney. It is beautiful. The village was awesome, but most of the athletes are moving out now, so we were not missing anything there. NBC is staying in our hotel, and today Bill Walton was in my elevator....pretty sweet.
I am so looking forward to the closing ceremonies tomorrow. It will be a blast. Needless to say, I have been spoiled and I am having a great time, but I am very anxious to get home and see everyone.
Maddy
