VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Gary Buchanan had a career-high 30 points and Michael Bradley had career-highs of 29 points and seven assists along with nine rebounds as Villanova overcame a 23-point second-half deficit to gain an improbable 86-74 win over Virginia Tech on Wednesday night.
After falling behind 55-32 with 17:44 left in the game, Villanova (11-4, 3-1 Big East) went on a 45-8 run to turn the deficit into its biggest lead, 77-63, with 2:29 to go. During that stretch, the Hokies (7-9, 1-4) scored just one field goal in more than 15 minutes and were 1-for-15 from the field while the Wildcats made 16-of-24.
Villanova also scored on 16 of 18 possessions at one point during the run.
Jermaine Medley had 12 points and seven assists and Brooks Sales grabbed 12 rebounds for Villanova, which broke a two-game losing streak. Buchanan was 10-for-10 from the foul line and has now made 41 straight free throws.
Brian Chase had a career-high 28 points and Carlos Dixon scored 13 for the Hokies, who have lost two in a row.
The Hokies capitalized on 15 first-half turnovers by Villanova and gained a 46-29 lead at the break. Chase had 22 points, including four three-pointers, and Virginia Tech scored 36 of the last 47 points of the period after falling behind 18-10 with 13:05 left. The Wildcats made just 3-of-13 from the field during the Hokies' big run.
