ORONO, Maine (AP) - Maine quarterback Jake Eaton threw for four touchdowns including a pair in the second half as the Black Bears overcame a 19-point third-quarter deficit to beat Villanova 44-40 on Saturday.
Trailing 40-21 late in the third, Maine scored the first of three unanswered touchdowns when Eaton found Paris Minor for a nine-yard catch.
Maine (5-1, 4-1 Atlantic 10) followed up with a nine-play, 65-yard scoring drive capped by a one-yard run by Royston English.
Maine recovered a fumble by Villanova's Gary Johnson on the ensuing kickoff, and Eaton connected with Stefan Gomes on the next play. Kicker Chris DeVinney's conversion gave Maine a 41-40 lead with nine minutes left.
DeVinney added a 35-yard field goal as Maine's defense held Villanova scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Eaton finished the day 26-for-35 for 353 yards. Minor hauled in 10 passes for 171 yards for Maine.
The loss by Villanova (5-2, 3-1) overshadowed another impressive performance by tailback Brian Westbrook, who accounted for 297 all-purpose yards and scored four times for the Wildcats.
His all-purpose yardage total makes him the all-time leader in career all-purpose yards in the Atlantic 10. Villanova quarterback Brett Gordon completed 26 of 35 for 406 yards.
