Nov. 18, 2001
Villanova, Pa. ----- Senior placekicker Casey Hannon (Lebanon, N.J.) kicked a career-high four field goals to lead the No. 17 Villanova Wildcats past Delaware, 19-14, in an Atlantic 10 football match-up. On Sunday, Nov. 18, the Atlantic 10 honored Hannon as the conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts.
Hannon accounted for 13 of Villanova's 19 points in the victory as the Wildcats earned a share of the 2001 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship. Hannon made field goal attempts from 42, 38, 36, and 19 yards and added an extra point on the Wildcats lone touchdown. His 42-yard field goal as time expired in the first half matched his season-best and gave Villanova a 13-7 lead at intermission.
Hannon's four field goals is one shy of an Atlantic 10 record set by former Villanova placekicker Mark Kiefer in 1995 versus Richmond.
On the year, Hannon is 12-of-18 on field goal attempts and 37-for-40 on extra point attempts. His 73 points ranks second on Villanova's squad behind senior running back Brian Westbrook.
Hannon and the Wildcats will travel to Williamsburg, Va., to challenge William & Mary on Saturday, Nov. 24. With a victory over the Tribe, Villanova would win the league championship outright and receive an automatic bid to the Division 1-AA playoffs.
