Barnes and Juhline Garner All-Big East Conference Honors

Storrs, CT - On Friday, March 2, the Big East Conference held its annual women's basketball conference awards banquet prior to the opening day of the 2000-01 Big East Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. Two Villanova players were honored for their outstanding accomplishments over the season. Senior center Brandi Barnes took home the highest honor for the Wildcats, receiving a third team All-Conference accolade. Trish Juhline was also honored, the sophomore guard garnered a Big East All-Conference honorable mention selection.

For the season, Barnes was phenomenal. Dominating the paint in almost every game, Barnes led Villanova in scoring with an average of 14 points per game. She also led the Wildcats in field goal percentage, 52 percent (156-295 from the field), and blocks with 41. She finished second on the team in rebounding with an average of 5.9 caroms a game. In 21 of Villanova's 27 games, Barnes tallied double figures in scoring, including six games of 20 points or more. Barnes ended the season ranked second in the Big East Conference in field goal percentage, fourth in blocked shots, eighth in scoring, and 19th in rebounding.

Trish Juhline was Villanova's most deadly threat from beyond the three-point arc in 2000-01. The sophomore standout tallied 64 three-point field goals made. That mark not only led the Wildcats in three-pointers made, but also the Big East Conference. Juhline was often prolific from deep, tallying on average 2.4 three-pointers a game. She was extremely consistent as well connecting on 38.6 percent of her long-range attempts. Juhline placed second on the team in scoring with an average of 11 points a game and second in assists with 77 helpers.

Villanova (20-7, 11-5) will kick off action in the 2000-01 Big East Conference Women's Basketball Tournament tomorrow when they do battle with St. John's (8-19, 3-13) at noon in Storrs, Conn.
