Villanova Swimming & Diving Announces 2000-01 Team Award Winners

VILLANOVA, PA - On Saturday, April 27, the Villanova men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded their 2000-01 seasons with their annual awards banquet. The evening included the recognition of several athletes including the members of the 2001 graduating class.

One of the special awards presented at the annual banquet is the Villanova Swimming Wildcat Award, presented annually to that member of the swimming & diving team that most unselfishly dedicates themselves to the betterment and development of the program through leadership, spirit, and dedication. The 2001 Villanova Swimming Wildcat Award winners were Ryan Costella (Carson City, Nevada) for the men's team, and Christy Welch (Atlanta, Ga.) for the women's team.

The 2001 Team Academic Awards, presented to the male and female athlete with the highest GPA, were given to Peter Klimas and Brooke Corby.

Head Coach Rick Simpson presented sophomore swimmer Maddy Crippen with her All-America plaques, which she earned in the 500 yard freestyle, the 400 yard individual medley, and the 200 yard breaststroke.

The evening ended with the presentation of the men's and women's Most Valuable Player Awards. This year's MVP awards went to senior diver Brian Mulligan, and sophomore swimmer Maddy Crippen.
