Fractured Left Thumb Sidelines Buchanan

Oct. 15, 2002

Villanova, Pa. - Senior guard Gary Buchanan suffered a slight fracture of his left thumb in practice on Monday and will be unavailable for practice for the next two weeks. The injury will be re-evaluated at that point. The fracture is to Buchanan's non-shooting hand.

Buchanan led the Wildcats in scoring in 2001-02 with a 17.8 ppg average. Over the course of his three years at Villanova he has already scored 1,399 points.

"I'm disappointed for Gary because he has worked extremely hard during the off-season to prepare for this season," said Villanova head coach Jay Wright. "But I also know Gary will work hard to be as prepared as he can be to help us when he returns from this setback."
