VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Allan Ray scored 15 points and Randy Foye added 13 as Villanova's freshmen class made a successful home debut with a 64-41 win over Drexel on Friday night.
Ray and Foye, part of what many consider to be among the top recruiting classes in the country, and their fellow freshmen accounted for 43 of the team's points in the win for Villanova (1-1).
Fellow freshman Curtis Sumpter added nine points and senior Ricky Wright had a career-high 16 rebounds for the Wildcats, who have won 12 straight home-openers.
Robert Battle had 12 points and Phil Goss added 11 for the Dragons (0-1).
Drexel was 14-of-56 (25 percent) from the field and was outrebounded 47-30.
A 3-pointer by Goss to start the second half pulled Drexel to within four, 31-27. The Wildcats then went on a 20-8 run, with all of the points coming from freshmen. Sumpter had all of his points during the run and Foy added eight.
The freshmen had all but five of Villanova's points in the second half.
Villanova led by as many as 11 in the first half, with a 3-pointer by Foye capping a 10-0 run to make it 31-20.
Drexel's Eric Schmeider missed all eight of his shot attempts in the first half and finished 2-for-12 with five points.
The game was the first between the two Philadelphia-area schools since 1990. Drexel has lost all 16 of the matchups.
