Philadelphia, Pa. - Senior center Brooks Sales was honored with the Philadelphia Big Five's Harry Merrill Sportsmanship Award at the annual Herb Good dinner held on April 22 at Colleen's Restaurant in Philadelphia.
Sales, who picked up the Villanova Basketball Award one week earlier, earned the award in part for his leadership skills as a co-captain on the 2001-02 Wildcats. The native of Bloomfield, Conn., averaged 10.4 points and 9.1 rebounds on the season.
Also honored by the Big Five was junior forward Ricky Wright. The product of East Chicago, Ind., was named first team All-Big Five. He was second on the 'Cats in scoring at 13.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
Junior guard Gary Buchanan picked up his second Sy Kaselman Award for free throw shooting accuracy. The native of St. Louis led the Big Five with a .911 percentage from the line. In addition, Buchanan was named second team All-Big Five.
Villanova finished the season with a 19-13 record and a 2-2 mark in City Series play.
