Water Polo Drops Two at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. --- On Saturday, April 6, the Villanova women's water polo competed in the Bucknell Invitational where they dropped an 8-5 contest to host Bucknell and a 12-8 decision to George Washington. With the losses, the Wildcats fall to 5-17 on the season and 0-7 in Southern Division action.

Against Bucknell, the match was evenly played throughout the first three periods with the Wildcats trailing by one at the end of three quarters. To open up play, the Bison struck first, scoring just 1:48 into the contest. The Wildcats responded 2:13 later off junior Maria Greshock's goal to even the score, 1-1. The Wildcats took a brief 2-1 lead with a Jennifer Rosick goal with 2:13 left in the period, but Bucknell tallied with :54 seconds left to tie the match at 2-2 going into the second quarter.

In the second period, Bucknell recorded back-to-back goals to take a two goal lead and would never trail from that point on. Villanova got to within one, but the two teams both tallied twice in the third to keep the one-goal margin. In the fourth, the 'Cats were held scoreless while Bucknell added two insurance goals en route to the 8-5 final.

In the match, Janine Kusza led Villanova with two goals while rookie Denise Hanes made six saves in the net.

In the second match of the afternoon, the Wildcats fell to George Washington despite getting three goals from senior Erin Agee. Villanova trailed throughout as the Colonials jumped out to a 5-3 lead after the first quarter. Leading 6-5 at the half, George Washington put the 'Cats away tallying four third quarter goals while holding Villanova scoreless.

In the 12-8 loss, Agee netted three goals while Rosick, Greshock and freshmen Chesed Ceniseroz, Ellen Howe and Aimee Corsiglia each recorded one score apiece for the Wildcats.

Villanova will return to action from Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21 when the Wildcats host the Southern Championships at the Villanova swim center.
