HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) - Quarterback Brett Gordon threw for 392 yards and a touchdown, leading Villanova past Colgate 20-0 on Saturday.
Following an interception in the fourth quarter by Clarence Curry, the Wildcats (2-0) drove down the field and put the game out of reach with their second touchdown. Tight end Matt Chila, who finished with 6 receptions for 95 yards, caught a 33-yard pass. Halfback Terry Butler scored on a two-yard plunge.
Butler scored at the end of the first quarter on a 43-yard catch. Gordon completed 27 of 39 passes.
The Raiders (0-1) had difficulty generating offense against Villanova, which in the first half allowed only 11 yards and held quarterback Tom McCune to 1-for-7 passing. McCune finished the game 12-for-23 for 111 yards, including the late interception.
Averaging 5 career yards per carry, Colgate tailback Nate Thomas was swarmed by Villanova defenders, struggling for 45 yards on 13 carries.
A botched Villanova field goal attempt and two poor punt snaps gave Colgate opportunities, but the Raiders failed to turn them into scores.
Adam James kicked field goals of 26 and 19 yards for the Wildcats.
