WASHINGTON D.C. - In women's basketball action on Friday, Nov. 21 in Washington, D.C., the Villanova Wildcats improved to 2-1 with a 72-51 win over the Howard University Lady Bison. With the loss, Howard falls to 0-1.

Villanova owned a 12-10 lead with 13:11 left in the first half before the Wildcats used a 10-2 run to take a 22-12 advantage at the 9:06 mark. The run was highlighted by a three-point field goal by junior Jennifer Hilgenberg and conventional three-point play by sophomore point guard Betsy McManus.

The Wildcats would go to intermission with a 45-32 lead. Villanova was paced in the first half by sophomore forward Liad Suez who made 6-of-8 from the field in the first stanza en route to 14 points. Hilgenberg went 3-of-3 from behind the arc for nine first half points.

Villanova controlled the second half, as Howard never got within 13 points. The Wildcats would lead by as many as 25 with 5:43 left to play and cruise to the victory. Suez led all scorers with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while redshirt freshman Jackie Adamshick finished with 10 points. Senior Courtney Mix registered a career-high 15 rebounds to go with six points, nine assists and two blocks. Howard was led by Shannon Carlisle and Shauna Ruglass who had eight points each.

In the win, Villanova shot 40.7 percent from the field (24-of-59), including a 9-of-26 effort (34.6%) from three-point range, while the Lady Bison connected opn 19-of-59 (32.2%) from the floor and 6-of-15 (40.0%) from three-point range. The Wildcats out-rebounded Howard 47-34.

Villanova opens up the home portion of its schedule on Sunday, Nov. 23 when the Fairfield University Stags comes to town. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
