VILLANOVA, Pa. - Sophomore forward Jason Fraser has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left heel. The native of Amityville, N.Y. will be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks, at which time his status will be re-evaluated.
This marks the third time Fraser has suffered a significant injury since February. On Feb. 24 he was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left foot that caused him to miss four games at the end of his freshman season. On April 9, Fraser underwent surgery on both his knees to alleviate tendinitis that plagued him throughout 2002-03.
The new injury, according to foot specialist Dr. Lee Cohen, is unrelated to the previous injuries.
"Jason has been through a lot in the last year," said head coach Jay Wright. "However, he remains positive and enthusiastic about his recovery. I know he will respond to this injury with a great attitude."
Villanova opens the 2003-04 season at Temple on Nov. 21.
