Villanova University senior guard Trish Juhline made the last home game of her career a memorable one in Tuesday's 83-48 win over Providence at The Pavilion. Entering the contest, Juhline needed five three-point field goals to set the Big East Conference record for career three-point field goals for just conference games.
Juhline hit her fifth triple of the game and 157th of her Big East career to set the record when she connected on a three-pointer from the corner with 8:50 left in regulation. The previous mark of 156 was held by Julie Wheeler who played at Providence from 1994-98. For her career, Juhline has made a Villanova school record 267 field goals from behind the arc.
Entering play versus Providence, Juhline trailed Miami forward Tamara James by 14 points for the conference scoring title. In the win, Juhline registered 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including a 5-of-8 effort from three-point range, while James scored seven points in a win over Georgetown in the season finale. When the buzzer sounded on the regular season, Juhline had registered 307 points in 16 conference games for a 19.2 points per game average, while James tallied 306 points in 16 Big East contests for a 19.1 points per game average, giving Juhline the scoring title by the narrowest of margin. Juhline becomes the first Wildcat since Shelly Pennefather to win the league scoring title.
