VILLANOVA, PA. - The Villanova women's tennis team captured its season opening match in impressive style, shutting out La Salle, 7-0, in non-conference play on Thursday afternoon at the Villanova Tennis Complex.

Wildcat newcomers Candice Carlin, Melissa Reed and Mai Kokubo each won their respective singles match in straight sets. Courtney Flezzani, Lindsey Puchyr and Morgan Flezzani rounded out the singles sweep for the Wildcats.

Villanova also took two out of three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Erica Walter and Courtney Flezzani defeated Courtney Tereszcuk and Christina Stefan, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. Then Morgan Flezzani teamed with Leighann Reilly for an 8-1 win over Katherine McNamara and Danise Chambers at third doubles.

Villanova (1-0) returns to the courts on Saturday at 1 p.m. when Fordham visits the Villanova Tennis Complex.
