In the Sports Network poll released on Monday, Sept. 1, the Villanova Wildcats moved up three spots and into the top ten with a No. 9 ranking. Villanova makes the move after defeating Hampton by a score of 41-6 in the season opener.
The Wildcats tallied 1,358 points to earn the ranking. McNeese State remained No. 1 with 2,280 points, while Georgia Southern (2,166 points) is second and Montana is third (2,108 points).
Villanova is one of five Atlantic 10 teams to be ranked in this week's top 25, with Northeastern the only other conference team to be ranked in the ten at No. 6. Other ranked Atlantic 10 teams include Massachusetts at No. 12, Delaware at No. 14 and Maine at No. 20.
