Villanova's strength through three games has been its defense. The Wildcats have limited their opponents to 48.0 ppg. Foes have connected on just .331 of their field goal attempts and only 13-of-54 (.241) from beyond the 3-point arc. Those strong early numbers place Villanova among the NCAA leaders in both categories. VU ranks fourth nationally in field goal percentage defense and ninth in 3-point field goal percentage defense.
Junior guard Allan Ray continues to move towards the 1,000 point plateau at Villanova. The Bronx, N.Y. native needs just 37 points to become the 46th player in school history to reach that standard. Classmate Randy Foye now has 830 career points to his credit.
The Wildcats return to the Main Line for a Tuesday night encounter with another Atlantic Ten representative, Fordham, at 7:30 p.m. The `Cats and Rams have not met since the 1971 NCAA Tournament, when VU eliminated Fordham on its way to the Final.
