Former Wildcat Chosen in First Round of CFL Draft

Former Villanova University fullback Ducarmel Augustin was selected in the first round of the Canadian Football League (CFL) draft held on Wednesday, April 28. The 5-11, 225 pound Augustin was chosen by the Saskatchewan Roughriders with the sixth overall pick of the first round.

Augustin played at Villanova from 1997-2000. During his Wildcat career, he participated in 39 games and tallied 1,151 yards rushing on 237 carries (4.8 yards per carry) and 19 touchdowns to go with 107 receptions for 1,206 yards and 11 scores. His best year came as a junior in 1999 when he registered a team-high 680 yards rushing on 136 carries and 12 touchdowns and 25 catches for 267 yards and one score. For his efforts in 1999, Augustin earned third team All-Atlantic 10 Conference accolades.

The Roughriders, who are a part of the West Division of the nine-team league, open the season with an exhibition game at home versus the Edmonton Eskimos on Sunday, May 30. The team plays it first regular season game at Toronto on Tuesday, June 15.
