ATHENS, GREECE - Former Villanova runner and current track assistant coach Carmen Douma-Hussar placed ninth in the finals of the women's 1500m at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens on Saturday afternoon. Competing for Canada, Douma-Hussar posted a time of 4:02.31, besting her semifinal time by nearly three seconds. Douma-Hussar was one of 12 individuals to qualify for Saturday's finals from an original field of 44 that ran in first-round heats on Tuesday, August 24. She and fellow former Villanovan Carrie Tollefson each qualified for the semifinals. Douma-Hussar entered the semifinals with the 17th-best time in the field, but her run of 4:05.09 in the second semifinal heat gave her the sixth best time heading into Saturday's final. Great Britain's Kelly Holmes captured the gold medal in the race with a time of 3:57.90.
