Aug. 4, 2004

At the annual Atlantic 10 Conference football media day held at The Omni Hotel in Richmond, Virginia, the Villanova Wildcats were picked first in the South Division of the preseason coaches/media poll. Villanova tallied 13 first place votes, while Delaware is second with 11 first place votes. Maine was the preseason choice to capture the North Division. Villanova was well represented on the preseason All-Conference teams. Defensively, four Wildcats were named to the preseason first team including senior safety Raymond Ventrone, senior defensive end Jamil Butler, junior linebacker Brian Hulea and junior defensive tackle Darrell Adams. Ventrone, Hulea and Adams were 2003 first team All-League selections, while Butler was a second team All-Conference nominee last year. Junior wide receiver J.J. Outlaw garnered preseason first team All-Atlantic 10 accolades. As a sophomore a season ago, Outlaw was named to All-Conference first team. Three other Villanovans earned preseason All-Atlantic 10 honors as senior running back Terry Butler, senior defensive end Terence Taylor and junior offensive lineman Jason Saks were all named to the second team. The Wildcats will kickoff the 2004 season on Thursday, Sept. 2 against Patriot League member Bucknell University at Villanova Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
