VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova junior forward Curtis Sumpter was examined this morning by Villanova team orthopedist Dr. Rob Good at Bryn Mawr Hospital. The examination confirmed Friday's preliminary diagnosis of a sprained right knee. According to Good, the typical recovery period for such injuries is 3-6 weeks. Sumpter will be reevaluated by Good in one week.
Sumpter was injured near the end of practice on Friday afternoon at Notre Dame's Joyce Center. The native of Brooklyn, N.Y. was not in uniform for Saturday afternoon's 78-72 loss to the Fighting Irish. In nine games this season, Sumpter led the Wildcats in scoring (17.4 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg). He was a preseason second team All-Big East selection.
Villanova (8-2 overall, 1-1 Big East) takes on Providence on Tuesday evening at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. and the game will be televised locally by WFMZ-TV (Channel 69).
