Ray is Named Big East Player of the Week

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Junior guard Allan Ray (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up a pair of honors on Monday. Ray was named Big East Conference Player of the Week and shares Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week honors with Pat Carroll of Saint Joseph's.

The 6-2 guard scored 23 points on Jan. 26 to help an undermanned Villanova squad rally to defeat Notre Dame 65-60 at the Wachovia Center. He followed that with a 21-point outburst in a 94-61 Wildcat victory at Rutgers. In the two games, Ray was 15-of-26 (.577) from the field, including 9-of-13 (.692) from beyond the 3-point arc.

On the season Ray averages 17.8 ppg, tops on the Wildcats. He is connecting on .513 of his field goal attempts and .454 of his attempts from beyond the 3-point arc.

Villanova (12-4 overall, 4-3 Big East) travels to Hartford to meet the defending NCAA champion University of Connecticut Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will be televised locally on WFMZ TV (Channel 69).
