Villanova, Pa. - Junior Monique Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica), junior Zita Mezei (Mezokovesd, Hungary), sophomore Arusha McKenzie (Kingston, Jamaica) and freshman Jackie Christie (Matawan, N.J.) along with the 4x400m relay team all won their events at the Jack Pyrah Invitational this afternoon.
"It was a great performance by the team," said head coach Gina Procaccio. "Definitely a great way to open the indoor season."
The 4x400m relay team established a meet record, running the event in 3:56.45, almost 3/10ths of a second faster than the previous best. Morgan nearly set a meet record in the 55m dash. She crossed the line in 7.28, just three hundreths of a second off the record.
Mezei won the one mile run with a time of 5:14.81, and McKenzie took first in the 1000m run with a time of 3:03.06. Freshman Emily McMillan (Wall, N.J.) also competed in the event and placed second in 3:03.66. Christie won the triple jump with a jump of 33'9.5".
The Wildcats recorded several other top three finishes. Freshman Thelma Akpan (Flanders, N.J.) and junior Kourtney Marquis (Yardley, Pa.) both placed second in their respective field events. Akpan jumped 5'1" in the high jump, while Marquis vaulted 10'6" in the pole vault. Sophomore Kathryn Geissler (Haddon Township, N.J.) took third in the the 55m hurdles run with a time of 8.97.
