RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Junior driver Kim Pare (Grand Rapids, Mich.) had two goals and two assists, but Villanova (1-6) was unable to overcome an early deficit in a 12-6 loss to California Baptist on Thursday afternoon. The loss was the third straight for the Wildcats, who will play matches against Whittier and Cal State-Monterey Bay on Friday.
California Baptist scored three unanswered goals in the first quarter to build a 3-0 lead, and then went into halftime with a 6-1 advantage. Villanova scored three times in the third quarter and trailed 8-4 heading into the final period, but was unable to come all the way back.
In addition to her scoring stats, Pare was 1-for-2 on sprints and drew two ejections. Senior utility Ellen Howe (San Diego, Calif.), sophomore defender Taylor Schrang (Bellevue, Wash.), freshman driver Carla Martinez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and freshman defender Christina Dopp (Stockton, Calif.) each scored goals for the Wildcats.
Junior goalie Jess Wells (Newport Beach, Calif.) had 16 saves and allowed 12 goals in the game.
Villanova plays Whittier at 7:45 AM Pacific Standard Time on Friday, and then faces Cal State-Monterey Bay at 3:30 PM.
