LEXINGTON, Va. — The Villanova water polo team defeated Siena 15-7 Saturday at the VMI Aquatic Center.
The 'Cats (18-8, 5-1 MAAC) advanced to 5-1 in MAAC play.
VU's scoring effort was led by
Ella Mattocks, who scored six.
Layla Canales and
Riley Hull both scored three and
Tessa Pettit,
Coco Jones and
Tippy Maguire had one each.
Sara Withers had four assists and was followed by Canales with three.
Anna Painter picked up two assists and Jones,
Emmie Mallory and Hull all assisted one.
Withers and Hull had three steals and were followed by four 'Cats with one —
Rosie Woodman,
Isabel Foley, Painter and Canales.
Mattocks, Pettit and
Emmie Mallory drew two exclusions. Hull, Painter and
Annika Wise each drew one.
Mallory led the team with two field blocks, Hull and Withers both picked up one.
Vilanova took an early 3-1 lead courtesy of Hull, Mattocks and Pettit first quarter goals.
Canales, Hull, Jones and Mattocks found the net in the second quarter to bring the score to 7-3 at halftime.
VU extended its lead on two Canales and Mattocks goals to go up 11-4 after the third quarter. The 'Cats only allowed a single goal in the third.
Mattocks scored twice more in the fourth quarter. Maguire and Canales both scored one each to round out the day.
Gracin Kerry started in goal, saving nine.
Reia Kimi entered for the final half of the fourth quarter, saving one.
