VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova University head football coach Andy Talley today announced the captains for the 2005 season. The trio selected to serve as tri-captains include defensive end Darrell Adams, linebacker Brian Hulea and wide receiver John Dieser. All three will be fifth-year seniors in the fall.
"Darrell, Brian and John represent the best of Villanova Football," said Talley. "They bring outstanding leadership and are committed to keeping our program at the highest level. We are excited to have these three serve as our captains this season."
After starting all 11 games last year at defensive tackle, Adams is moving back to defensive end for the 2005 campaign. In 11 games a year ago, he tallied 40 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, five fumble recoveries, four sacks and two blocked kicks. Adams earned first team All-Atlantic 10 distinction in 2003 and 2004.
Hulea enters the 2005 season needing 104 tackles to become just the third Wildcat in school history to register 400 career tackles. As a junior last year, Hulea made a team-high 85 tackles to go with eight tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception. He was named third team All-Atlantic 10 as a sophomore in 2002 before earning first team distinction in 2003 and 2004.
Dieser has been a mainstay at wide receiver the last three seasons. Last year, he recorded 38 receptions for 467 yards and three touchdowns. The 38 catches ranked him second on the team. For his career, Dieser has made 111 receptions for 1,405 yards and 11 scores.
