Villanova, Pa. - The Wildcats took a break from BIG EAST play on Wednesday night, and played host to the Temple Owls. Villanova came away with a 3-0 sweep of the Owls and improved to 15-13 overall. The win also gave the Wildcats a 3-0 record against the Big Five teams this season.
In game one, Villanova out-hit the Owls, .311 to .225 to win the game 30-24. Game two was not as pretty for either team, as both teams hit below .130. But the Wildcats were able to emerge from a 28-28 tie to get the 30-28 win.
The third game was all Villanova, as hitting percentage would once again be the determining factor. The Wildcats hit .452 for the game while Temple hit -.121 and Villanova won, 30-17.
Top statistical perfomers for the Wildcats were Kacy Sellers (Battle Creek, Mich.) with 12 kills, Alona Cherkez (Crimea, Ukraine) with 11 kills and Adrian Semrau (Grafton, Ohio) with 10. Semrau also added six blocks, including three solo to the Wildcats effort.
Amy Gulyas (Allentown, Pa.) led the defensive charge, logging 15 digs. Chelsea Graman (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Jenna Link (Wheaton, Ill.) combined for 43 of the teams 44 assists.
It will be Senior Night on Friday at Nevin Field House, as the Wildcats host the Seton Hall Pirates. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM, with seniors Link, Semrau and Kelly Ludwig to be honored prior to the start of the match.
