Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova women's basketball team is currently in the midst of one of the most successful stretches in the program history. Over the last six seasons, Villanova has averaged 22.1 wins per game and tallied a record of 133-56 (.703). During the six-year run, the Wildcats have earned four NCAA Tournament berths and two WNIT appearances. In addition to its on-court success, Villanova has also excelled in the classroom. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its 2005-06 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll and Villanova ranked 22nd among all Division I schools with a 3.300 team grade point average.

"It is a great accomplishment to be included in the WBCA Team Honor Roll," said Wildcat head coach Harry Perretta. "I am very proud of the players. They take their schoolwork very seriously and I am happy for them that all their hard work is being noticed."

Villanova is one of only two Big East schools to be ranked by the WBCA Academic Team Honor Roll. Fellow Big East member DePaul is 11th with a 3.361 grade point average.

"The women's basketball team is a model of the dedication to academics and athletics that Villanova strives for in its student-athletes," said Dr. Dan Regan, Villanova's Faculty Athletic Representative and Director of Academic Support. "The Office of Academic Support is proud to see the team receive recognition for their efforts in the classroom. We hope to continue this tradition of academic excellence for a long time."

The Wildcats will begin the 2006-07 season on Sunday, Nov. 12 at the University of Delaware. Villanova will open the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 14 when Big Five rival La Salle visits the Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
