Lennox and Somerville Named to Philadelphia Academic All-Area Squad

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Two Villanova swimmers have been named to the Philadelphia Academic All-Area Team. Kristina Lennox (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Jenny Somerville (Hillsdale, Ind.) both received the honor after outstanding performances in both the pool and in the classroom this past school year.

Lennox rounded out the 2006 season with strong finishes in numerous events at the Big East Swimming and Diving Championships. The junior had three fourth place finishes including the 200 free relay, 100 fly (55.59) and 200 fly (2:03.84). She was also part of the fifth place 800 free relay. All four performances placed her on the All-Big East squad. Lennox is a Communications major with a 3.398 GPA.

Somerville continued her dominance in the distance events this season three-peating as the Big East 1,650 free champion. She swam to a 16:29.92 at the conference meet which was good enough to qualify her for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships where she placed 23rd with a 16:33.46. Somerville also qualified for the national championships in the 500 free after finishing seventh with a 4:53.31 at the conference meet. She ended up 40th in the nation clocking in at 4:52.21. The Hillsdale, Ind. native is a Communications major with a 3.80 GPA.

Tammy Leane from West Chester University was name the Philadelphia Area Female Swimmer of the Year. The Academic All-Area Team is made up of eleven student-athletes from schools in the Philadelphia area.
