Eagles Sign Former Wildcat J.J. Outlaw

Jan. 24, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Former Villanova football standout J.J. Outlaw (Columbia, Md.) was one of 13 players signed by the Philadelphia Eagles, the organization announced yesterday. Outlaw, a wide receiver who played for the Wildcats from 2002-05, will be assigned to NFL Europe this spring.

The Eagles had previously signed Outlaw to a free agent contract on May 1. He participated in the team's training camp prior to the season but did not make the practice squad. On Tuesday, Outlaw was one of five players signed by the Eagles who will play in Europe this spring.

During his four-year career at Villanova, Outlaw was a three-time All-Atlantic 10 selection. By the time he graduated he ranked fifth in school history in receptions and was also ninth in receiving yards. As a senior in 2005, he led the Atlantic 10 in receptions per game, ranked third in all-purpose yards and was sixth in the league in receiving yards per game.

Outlaw finished his collegiate career with 4,431 all-purpose yards. He gained 1,181 rushing yards, 1,899 receiving yards, 681 yards on kickoff returns and 127 yards on punt returns. He totaled 18 career touchdowns (14 receiving, four rushing), including eight in his senior season. During his collegiate career, Outlaw averaged 10.4 yards per carry and 10.6 yards per reception.

A native of Columbia, Md., Outlaw graduated from Villanova last May with a degree in Communications. His signing gives the Wildcats five former players who are currently on NFL rosters. The other four are Darrell Adams (New York Jets), Brian Finneran (Atlanta Falcons), Raymond Ventrone (New England Patriots) and Brian Westbrook (Philadelphia Eagles).
