East Meadow, N.Y. - Day three of four at the 2007 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships saw the Villanova contingent pick up some solid finishes on the women's side. Yet, they still dropped two positions in the team standings going into the final day.
The top finishers on the day for the women were Kristina Lennox and Brie Von Rosendahl, who both picked up third place finishes. Lennox was third in the 100 butterfly with an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 54.78. Von Rosendahl was third with a time of 1:03.07 in the 100 breaststroke, which was also good for a "B" qualifying time.
Other swimmers scoring points for the Wildcats include Annie Kelley in the 400 IM (8th), Kerri McIlvain in the 100 breaststroke (10th), Marlee Morden in the 200 free (11th), Sarah Czar also in the 200 free (14th) and Caitlin Regan in the 400 IM (16th).
As a team, the Wildcats women stand in 6th place with 205.5 points, trailing first place Notre Dame, who has 529 points.
The men's team remained in tenth place after getting an eleventh place finish from the 400 medley relay that touched the wall in a time of 3:32.73.
Notre Dame also leads the men's team competition with 554 points, followed closely by West Virginia.
The final day will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with the preliminary swims for the 1650 free, 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke, 200 Yard Butterfly, and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The women's 3-meter diving title will also be up for grabs on the last day.
In the women's 1650 free, Villanova senior Jenny Somerville will be looking to be crowned conference champion for the fourth straight year in the event. She enters the day having swam the second fastest time in the conference during the regular season.
