VILLANOVA, Pa. - Seven different players got into the scoring column for Villanova (2-3) in the game, but the Wildcats were defeated 13-7 by Saint Joseph's (2-1) on Tuesday afternoon at Villanova Stadium. Villanova allowed seven first-half goals and trailed by as many as eight goals in the game.

The visiting Hawks led 2-1 in the opening minutes of the game before stretching the lead to 7-2 with just over nine minutes left in the first half. Saint Joseph's scored on eight of their 11 shots in the opening period and led 8-3 at halftime.

Freshman Meredith Kolmer (Berwyn, Pa.) notched the first goal for the Wildcats 4:20 into the game to pull Villanova to within 2-1. It was the first collegiate goal for Kolmer, who also had an assist and three ground balls in the game. Following her goal, however, the Hawks scored the next three goals in a span of six minutes. A goal by freshman Britany Flem (Salisbury, Md.) with 13:51 left in the half made the score 5-2 but was as close as the Wildcats would get the rest of the way.

Kolmer and Flem were joined by freshman Kyler O'Shea (Ridgewood, N.J.) in scoring their first collegiate goals in the game. Villanova matched Saint Joseph's with 20 shots in the game and tallied 10 draw controls while picking up 22 ground balls.

For the second straight game, the Wildcats scored three of their goals off of free-position opportunities. O'Shea, Flem and junior Stevie McFadden (Reisterstown, Md.) each scored free-position goals for the Villanova.

The Hawks had five different players score multiple goals in the game, including freshman Jenna Martino with a game-high three tallies. Christina Colangelo and Jessica Westlake had two goals and two assists apiece for Saint Joseph's, while Suzy Herlihy stopped 10 shots in goal.

The Wildcats will go on the road for their next three games after playing two in a row at home. First up on the three-game swing is a trip to Sacred Heart for a 2 p.m. game on Sunday.

NOTES: Villanova had an 8-4 edge in draw controls in the first half, but the Hawks took back that advantage with a 7-2 margin of their own in the second period ... The Wildcats were 3-of-6 overall on free-position opportunities ... Their three free-position goals on Sunday made the difference in a 4-3 win over Central Connecticut State ...
