Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova men's tennis team defeated Big East rival Rutgers University by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday, March 28 at the Villanova Tennis Complex. The Wildcats improve to 3-6 for the spring season and look to clinch another win this weekend against St. John's.
Villanova jumped out to an early lead as they went 2-3 in the doubles matches to put the first point on the board. After two minor setbacks in the first and second singles spots, the Wildcats exploded, winning three consecutive singles matches in the third, fourth, and fifth positions. Although Scott Fahrendorf and Dimitri Chimerakis held convincing victories in their respective spots, three other singles matches were decided in three sets with Villanova winning only one.
The Wildcats will face another Big East foe this weekend as they host St. John's at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 31.
