SACRAMENTO, Calif. - This Wednesday, June 6, marks the first day of competition for the 2007 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Sacramento, Calif. hosted by the State University of California. The Wildcats are represented by a total of five runners, who all posted qualifying marks at last week's NCAA East Regional meet in Gainesville, Fla.
Villanova's list of performers consists of four seniors and a lone sophomore all looking to bring a respective title back to the Main Line. Senior sensation Bobby Curtis, who clinched the 5,000m at the regional meet, will look to add another accolade to his impressive senior season in this event. Fellow classmate Michael Kerrigan is aiming for a first place finish in the 1,500m, which he placed an impressive third in last week. Rounding out the competition for the men will be sophomore Elvis Lewis. Lewis crossed the finish line fourth in the 400m event at the regional meet.
On the women's side, senior duo Monique Morgan and Akilah Vargas aspire to win titles of their own. Morgan, who specializes in the hurdles events, will perform the 100m hurdle this week. During the regional meet, Morgan placed a remarkable fifth in the event to send her to the NCAA Championships. Vargas plans to put her best foot forward in the 1,500m event, which she posted an outstanding third in last week.
