RALEIGH, N.C.—One day after moving into the top 10 in school history in the 1500 meters, sophomore distance runner
Rosie Shay (Middletown, N.J.) lowered her personal best in the 800 meters by more than 1.5 seconds as Villanova wrapped up competition at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday afternoon. Shay was one of five Wildcats who ran in the 800 meters at Paul Derr Track on the last of three days of the meet.
With her latest effort to close out the weekend, Shay has now recorded personal bests during the 2026 calendar year in the 800 meters, 1500 meters, mile and 3000 meters. She and classmate
Bella Walsh (Wilmington, Del.) each won their heat of the 800 meters and ranked among the top 13 overall finishers out of more than 180 athletes in the event.
Shay crossed the finish line in 2:07.31 to beat her previous PR of 2:08.83 from last year's outdoor season opener. Walsh posted a time of 2:07.56 to win her heat, while freshman
Sophia McInnes (Bayport, N.Y.) and graduate student
Nikki Vanasse (Martinsville, N.J.) tallied times of 2:10.65 and 2:10.99, respectively. Junior
Caelen O'Leary (Taunton, Mass.) added a time of 2:12.33.
Villanova returns to action next weekend with competition at the Florida Relays and the Sam Howell Invitational.
