VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova University senior defensive end Greg Miller (Willow Grove, Pa./ Abington H.S.) has been added to the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List. The Buchanan Award is given to the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
The Buchanan Watch List currently stands at 16 players. The list will undergo one more revision in early November before the final list is announced at the conclusion of the regular season. The winner will be announced on Dec. 18 at the FCS awards banquet held the night before the FCS national championship game in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Miller has started all five games this season for the No. 7 Wildcats and has tallied 25 total tackles, a team-best 10.4 tackles for loss, a team-high 4.5 quarterback sacks and a team-high tying two forced fumbles. Miller also serves as a Wildcat co captain along with fellow defensive lineman Dave Dalessandro.
Villanova has never had a Buchanan Award winner. The Wildcats have had two Walter Payton Award winners (given to the top player in FCS football) and one Eddie Robinson Award honoree (given to the top coach in FCS football). Wide receiver Brian Finneran garnered the Payton Award in 1997, while running back Brian Westbrook claimed the honor in 2001. Villanova head coach Andy Talley was the Robinson Award winner in 1997.
