Catch Frances Koons on NBC 10, Dec. 26

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Senior Frances Koons will be featured on Game Changers, December 26 on NBC 10 at 7:00 p.m.

Game Changers is a show about the triumphs and struggles of local athletes who inspire their community.

From a piece taped in April, Koons talks about her return to the track after being diagnosed with clear cell renal cell carcinoma in the summer of 2007. Koons took a medical redshirt for the 2007 cross country and 2008 indoor track seasons, but returned to the outdoor track in April 2008 and made a triumphant return.

Koons was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer of the 2008 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships after winning the 1,500m and 5,000m titles. She finished third in the 5,000m at the NCAA East Regional and went on to run the 5.000m in the NCAA Championships. She was named to the NCAA All-East Region squad and was a Villanova Senior Student Athlete of the Year. Koons also qualified to the Olympic Trials in the 1,500m where she finished eighth in her heat of the semi-finals.
