Villanova/Lehigh Post-Game Quotes

Sept. 13, 2008

Recap | Box Score

Villanova head coach Andy Talley...

Opening Statement: I thought our defense really held us in today and did a really good job and pressured the QB all day and they ran the screens on us and hurt us a little with the screen plays but in large I thought we negated their running game and played extremely well on defense.

Offensively I think we are still getting the rust off of us. I think Antwon is starting to make those plays and make those things happen. Offensively, we were just out of sink a little bit, in the second half we had that 17 play drive which I think was critical. Our special teams today held up very well.

I like our defense, I think our kids got a lot of work in the passing game today and I think that will help us when we come in to play Penn. I think that this is a good rock hard solid defense which is what we need to complement an offense that I think will be high scoring.

On quarterback Antwon Young: In this offense its tremendous amount of pressure on the quarterback, everything really stems off him. In most, but especially in this one. He is a guy still coming off of only 5 games the year before and this is his sophomore year. So again every game the reps are important for him. I think it is just a matter of going from point a to point b. First half second half and I am more in the groove now. Feeling more comfortable and stepping up and seeing things. Sometimes it is just being able to see the field clearly.

Villanova junior quarterback Antwon Young...

On the game: First half I think Lehigh came off fresh and sent a lot of blitzes and they never run their same defense more than once in a row, you see a lot of different things. I really was not stepping up in the pocket like I was supposed to and throwing the ball of my back foot. Coach talked to us about settling down and letting plays come to us. In the second half I think we wore them down and the pass rush was affecting us less. Our fast receivers were able to outrun their DB's and get into open spaces and I was able to deliver the ball.

Villanova senior kicker Joe Marcoux...

On the game: After last week with the miss on a confusing call by the coaches, as a senior, with Antwon stepping up and with as coach said our rock hard defense, I think the special teams had something to prove and I and something to show this week. Its good that our coaches and even our offense can start to be confident and I think I proved that today.

Villanova junior linebacker Osayi Osunde...

On his interception returned for a touchdown: Greg was just right there, made the quarterback force a bad through. I just pretty much got lucky and was in the right place at the right time and realized I had the ball in my hands and just started running.
