Anderson's Injury is a Knee Hyperextension and Bone Bruise

Feb. 11, 2009

VILLANOVA, Pa. - An examination of Dwayne Anderson's left knee has revealed the senior guard suffered a hyperextension and bone bruise in Tuesday night's 102-84 Villanova victory over Marquette at the Pavilion. Anderson is listed as questionable for Friday night's game at West Virginia (9:00 p.m./ESPN and ESPN 950 Radio).

Anderson underwent an MRI this morning and was later examined by Dr. Rob Good, Villanova's team orthopedic surgeon.

"We're very fortunate that this is a bone bruise," stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. "It is a painful injury but one that will have no affect on the structure of Dwayne's knee. We'll see how he progresses over the next few days and then make a determination about his availability on Friday."

"This is good news," stated Good. "It's hard to say exactly how long Dwayne will be out for. He will be day-to-day as we monitor the soreness."

Anderson has started 14 of the 17 games he has appeared in 2008-09 after being idled early by a stress reaction in his foot. He averages 25.0 minutes, 7.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per outing for the Wildcats.

Villanova (20-4 overall, 8-3 BIG EAST) takes a six game winning streak to Morgantown, W. Va., on Friday night to face the Mountaineers (16-8 overall, 5-6 BIG EAST).
